The LMAW -  Art Walk

A series of creative art events that would transform downtown Muskegon into a vibrant destination for artists, art buyers and people who just love art.

Lake Michigan Art Walk, is an art gallery on the move in downtown Muskegon --a  new opportunity to view collectible art, commission a work of art and maybe watch an artist at work. Join local West Michigan Artists and help create a vibrant art presence in the growing downtown Muskegon area. Walk the Walk at the first event taking place at the Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts.

What is an Art Walk?

The Art Walk  is a unique gallery on the move. It is an opportunity to view collectible art, commission a work of art and maybe watch an artist at work.

Walk the Walk!

What is Our Mission?

Our Mission is to connect the community with artists, art buyers and people who love art, through showcasing the fine art originals of local West Michigan Artists at businesses in downtown Muskegon. The LMAW hopes to keep expanding down Western Avenue for the next Art Walk, providing artists a way to sell art and encourage economic growth for the area.

When is the next Art Walk?

Friday and Saturday August 27th and 28th from 11 am to 8 p.m. pm

Where is the Art Walk?

The initial Lake Michigan Art Walk event showcasing some of the area’s best artists will be held in the Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts, Muskegon’s architectural gem known for its  “extraordinary beauty and grace.” The Frauenthal will be the hub for future Art Walks as we expand into other area businesses.

Louise HopsonArt Cats Gallery is located in the historic Lakeside district of Muskegon and is Muskegon’s premier gallery of fine contemporary craft and original works on paper. Opened in 1999 as a showroom for artist/owner Louise Hopson’s clay pieces, the gallery has grown to include the work of over 40 talented artists.

Art Cats Gallery carries a delectable selection of artist made jewelry, fun and functional pottery, blown and kiln fired glass, sculpture, furniture, works on paper and a delightful medley of amazing accessories. The fanciful, bright clay pieces of owner Louise Hopson are always in abundance as well.

Louise Hopson has been creating bright and joyful one-of-a-kind pieces in clay for over 30 years. She owns and operates Art Cats Gallery and She lives and works in the Lakeside District of Muskegon near Lake Michigan with her adoring husband John and blissfully happy dog Bucatini al Dente. When they aren’t creating art, they love to float around on their custom Pontoon boat and walk the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan

Susan McElfish's colorful and intricate glass mosaics are a delight to behold. Her use of materials, including beach glass, stones, bottle caps and corks with cut glass add a playful touch to her pieces and places her creative and personal handprint on her work.

Small ForestA graduate from Kendall College of Art and Design, I live and work in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  I take oils liquefied in alkyd resins, and paint onto a pre-textured wooden board that is painted solid black.  Embedded with dynamic energy and intensity of color, each abstract work promotes feelings of peace and spirituality. Newsflash

It couldn't have done better than this.  Good news coverage and television as well.  We managed to get ten area artists to contribute and invest in this first event and it better attended than we thought.  Downtown Muskegon is an area that definitely lacks a foot traffic and to have that kind of attention drawn to a small first time event can be called nothing more than a success.

The LMAW is planning its second event for the end of August and it woill find its sopt right after the Muskegon Museum of Art's Salon Thursday.  Hopefully we will be running an event that is twice as large as the first one and will span August 27th and 28th, Friday and Saturday.  We will keep you posted.
